Awe, Shucks! [and a contest]!

So, I got an email a few weeks back from the people behind Project Wedding, one of my FAVORITE industry sites and by far the place where I get most of my business from [I am so, SO thankful to my clients who take the time to even talk about me after their event... their raves are always so gracious and I heart them deeply].

Apparently, I’ve been elected as one of Project Wedding’s “Best of 2008″. Whoo hooo! They told me they’d be sending a packet. It arrived today! In it was a short letter, some business cards to hand out to clients [offering an Amazon discount for any client that reviews me on their site], a window decal for my office [um, my 2nd bedroom window facing the parking lot may work??], and a stand up placard for my office. Seeing as I work from home, I found this the best fit:

This is our entry table. To the right, you can see the dish where we set our keys [a place for everything, and everything in it's place]. To the left, a lamp. And just in the center…. my badge of honor. At the very least, it made Josh giggle [a daily goal]. But seriously, I’m proud of it! I’m not sure HOW it happened, or what qualifies me to be in their top 5%, but I’m thrilled!!

SO, in honor of that, I’m asking for what YOU think qualifies someone as a “top 5%” wedding vendor. Come up with original ideas and submit them here, as comments. The winner will receive a $25 iTunes gift card compliments of MOI! Contest ends on Monday the 15th so submit by then. Pick just ONE reason, and then give your “supporting causes” for that reason. And by the way, it DOES NOT have to be a quality I posses. :) I’m ready and willing to learn and grow. And, everyone qualifies… even you, assistants! Winner will be chosen randomly- I promise!

s - Top 5% is tough, but in my book, dependability, reliability and keeping the client's vision in mind. And keeping the client's mind sane haha.

bree - Congrats! Hmmm top 5%... I think it's the ability to listen to what your clients want and evision and then apply your skills and experience without losing their vision to make the entire experience: from hello, to the the last dance, a successful and enjoyable process for everyone involved. It takes balance to be able to understand what's most important to your client and then make it your mission to get everything done without compromising the schedule and the other vendors involved. All while smiling! hehe

Karla - YAY!!! Congrats! Now for the Top 5% thing: I think what qualifies a vendor as a top 5% vendor is their ability to stay professional and make everything go flawless no matter HOW they are feeling for the day (ahem..remember you were as sick as a dog for my wedding and I HAD NO CLUE!) kind of what makes people successful in the corporate world, "leave your bagagge at the door, and pick it up on your way out" meaning don't bring your personal problems to the workplace, deal with them when you are OUT of there..

Nicola - I think the one quality that makes a wedding vendor top 5% is a comittment to the clients vision. Every wedding is different and every couple is different, and a fabulous coordinator (like you) makes a comittment to listen, understand, and carryout that couples perfect vision as they see it. SOmetimes this might mean (as in my case) bringing to life every one of the million minute details my control freak self envisioned. At other times it might be helping a couple to really flesh and out an articulate their dream, but eaither way a top 5% coordinator is comitted to finding and creating the day their client DREAMS of! Congrats Amanda!

angel swanson - yay amanda! i also got the email but didn't receive my packet yet. glad to get this sneak peek. ;-) i think a top 5% wedding coordinator has an amazing ability to read and understand his/her clients. they are skilled in taking a laundry list of ideas and likes and creating a cohesive, unique, personalized event. they also are able to discern how the client likes to work (email v. phone, level of attention desired) so they are best equipped to meet their needs! xoxo

Alicia - Passion - I think you can tell when vendors truely love what they do and aren't just doing it for a paycheck. When you feel like someone really cares about your big day, you feel that much more comfortable leaving it in their hands. :o)

Christine - GAH...i've been so busy I haven't been able to do my daily "drive-bys"...and so happy to find your post for today! I'm so excited for you and I DEFINITELY feel that you deserve it! (and so lucky that I snapped you up!) If I were to pick only 1 reason that would put a wedding vendor up to the top 5%...it would be, without a doubt: The ability show that he/she/they care about their client. Reason: During a very stressful time (such as wedding planning), it means a lot to just have a listening ear. Vendor's obviously have many clients, so I'm not talking about becoming bff's...but being responsive and really listening to what the client wants is a BIG BIG deal. and YOU, my dear, have this in spades, so you display that badge with pride! =P
